In this edition of CPaaSAA Talks, I sat down with Mike Mills, Business Director at Gamma, to talk strategy, acquisitions, and the evolving role of service providers in the age of convergence. Gamma recently joined the CPaaS Acceleration Alliance, and they’re not wasting any time stepping into the spotlight — with two major acquisitions under their belt and a sharper focus on enabling channel success across Europe.
From the floor of MWC Barcelona to the upcoming Gamma SP Summit in London, it’s clear: Gamma is leaning into growth, relevance, and reinvention.
“We’ve Always Seen Ourselves as Enablers”
That’s how Mike kicked off our chat — and it’s more than a tagline. Gamma has spent over two decades building one of the UK’s most respected service provider platforms, supporting a wide network of channel partners. But as the market shifts, so does the game plan.
“Service Providers today face a different kind of challenge,” Mike explained. “It’s not about connectivity alone anymore — it’s about differentiation, integration, and delivering better outcomes to customers.”
That’s where Gamma wants to lead. And their recent moves show they’re serious.
Strategic Growth: From Starface to Coolwave
Gamma’s acquisition of Starface, a leading German UCaaS provider, marks a significant leap into continental Europe — and brings with it a modern, feature-rich platform that resonates with the midmarket and SMB segments.
“It’s not just a product play,” Mike said. “It’s about building capabilities and presence across markets where we see demand — and then enabling our SP partners to succeed with that.”
Equally intriguing is the acquisition of Coolwave, a voice and messaging infrastructure specialist known for its agility and CPaaS-friendly architecture.
“Coolwave gives us reach, flexibility, and new routes to support CPaaS and UCaaS players globally,” Mike shared. “We’re planning to announce more in the coming weeks, but it’s going to open new doors — not just for us, but for our partners too.”
These moves are not about becoming a monolithic provider — they’re about equipping a distributed, partner-led ecosystem to compete, grow, and innovate faster.
Helping SPs Stay Relevant in a Shifting Market
One of the strongest parts of the conversation was Mike’s view on how the SP landscape is evolving — and what Gamma is doing to help.
“There’s been a shift from pure product to platform and customer experience,” he noted. “SPs that succeed are the ones who can verticalize, personalize, and integrate their offerings. That’s where we’re focused — giving them the tools, APIs, and GTM support to do that.”
Whether it’s unifying UCaaS, CCaaS and CPaaS, or supporting network API strategies, Gamma sees itself as a bridge — between legacy telco infrastructure and the new digital service layer.
And that’s exactly why they joined the CPaaS Acceleration Alliance.
“It’s great to be part of a community that’s not just talking about the future, but actively building it,” Mike said. “For us, it’s a place to share ideas, connect with innovators, and help shape what the next 5–10 years looks like.”
MWC Signals & Summit Highlights
Reflecting on Mobile World Congress, Mike pointed out a shift in tone: “Less hype, more substance,” he said. The big trends — AI, APIs, customer journeys — are no longer just buzzwords. They’re becoming building blocks. And service providers need a path to leverage them.
That’s part of the thinking behind Gamma’s SP Summit in London next week — a curated, partner-first event that lifts the curtain on their roadmap.
“We’ll be showing off what we’ve built, where we’re going, and how we’re evolving our platforms to give partners a competitive edge,” Mike previewed. Expect themes around ecosystem collaboration, smarter go-to-market programs, and an open dialogue with the partner community.
Final Word: The Next-Gen Enabler
Gamma’s journey is a great example of what it means to evolve with — and for — the channel. From the Starface acquisition that brings a European platform edge, to the Coolwave deal that unlocks new global messaging and voice capabilities, Gamma is investing in relevance, reach, and resilience.
They’re not trying to outpace their partners. They’re trying to empower them — with better tools, smarter infrastructure, and a bigger vision of what success can look like in the next chapter of cloud communications.
Welcome aboard, Gamma. We’re glad to have you in the room — and can’t wait to see what’s next.
